A World Without Bob

Last Friday marked the 4th anniversary of Bob Moog leaving Planet Earth.

I did a very small tribute to him... I toasted him with a friend when we were at a Steely Dan concert.

I'm proud to say I did meet the Esteemed Dr. Moog a couple times, and somewhere I have a picture of his signature on my first iPod. He signed that when he debuted the Voyager back in '02, the same year he earned a technical Grammy. (Refrained from laughing at the guy who brought his MG-1 to have it signed that night, btw.)

Two years before that, there was the AH party where I danced near Bob. Fun night, but a little bittersweet now because of what happened later that year when someone I had a great conversation with that night got butthurt over the Sage Hoax.

I do wish that idea to have 1 volt/octave known as a "Moog" had gone somewhere. That would have been cool.

So Dr. Moog, I hope you're enjoying the afterlife. You deserve it after the impact you made while on Earth.

Emerson & Moog, #2

Figured I'd post two things today, to make up for my sporadic updates.
(As I've said before, this blog is a very low priority, as it's something I do for fun, not fame.)

Voyager Debut, March '02

This is a pic from the debut of the Minimoog Voyager at Guitar Center on the Sunset Strip in early March, 2002.

I was working a couple miles down Sunset at the time, so I hopped on a bus after work to attend.

This is the night where Bob Moog announced he was gonna start calling himself Moog Music again, so it was a pretty special night.

Moog Liberation

This is me back in January, 2003. This is after NAMM was over, and there was a shindig of some sort for Bob Moog at this nondescript studio-type place in Studio City. This is the first time I got to hold a Liberation, but I never got to play it.

Behind me is a bunch of Moog stuff stuck artfully in a corner. :)

Oh yeah... just remembered--Bob Moog almost didn't get into the shindig 'cause the bouncer, who was roughly 21, didn't know who he was and he wasn't on the guest list. D'oh!
